11.25.08 -- HELP US KEEP MINNESOTA 2008 FROM BECOMING FLORIDA 2000! -- With fewer than 200 votes now separating Minnesota Democrat Al Franken from embattled incumbent U.S. Sen. Norm Coleman, it is now "almost a certainty" that Republicans will use the same tactics they employed in Florida in the wake of the 2000 presidential election to shutdown a recount that is slipping away from them. We need your help! NoVoterLeftBehind.net, which is accepting donations and volunteers to fight back against the GOP efforts to steal the 2008 Minnesota Senate seat.

NoVoterLeftBehind.net Executive Director Jennifer Petty said that the organization will fight to keep the vote recount going in its current stage and right on through the hand-off to a nonpartisan panel of five persons, who will convene to decide the fate of challenged ballots. With thousands of absentee ballots yet to be accounted for, Coleman's steadily shrinking lead is now down to under 200 votes out of 2.9 million -- a margin of under seven-thousandths of 1 percent. Petty said: "NoVoterLeftBehind.net was founded by Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., on the motto 'No more 2000s!' That battle cry for our group applies to both national and state-specific races. We know the kind of goon-squad tactics the Republicans used in 2000 to shut down the recount and deny the U.S. presidency to Al Gore. We need the help of concerned Democrats nationwide to make sure this doesn't happen again in Minnesota."

HELP IS ON THE WAY FOR 12 RACES STILL TOO CLOSE TO CALL! -- Democrats in 12 close federal and state-level election races across the nation will be receiving volunteer help and needed financial support, announced NoVoterLeftbehind.net (http://www.NoVoterLeftBehind.net), which is still seeking donations and volunteers to make sure that every vote is counted in the large number of key races that remain undecided at this hour. The volunteers recruited by NoVoterLeftBehind.net will be coordinated by 21st Century Democrats (http://www.21stdems.org).

Jennifer Petty, spokesperson, NoVoterLeftBehind.net said that NoVoterLeftBehind.net and 21st Century Democrats will focus on the following 12 races:

  • OREGON. Incumbent Republican Sen. Gordon Smith and Democrat Jeff Merkley, speaker of the Oregon House of Representatives, remain neck and neck. With 75 percent of the votes tallied, Smith is ahead only by a small margin (525,942 to 510,799).
  • MINNESOTA. With all of the precincts reporting, the unofficial figures show the Republican incumbent, Sen. Norm Coleman, leading the Democratic challenger, Al Franken, by about 700 votes out of 2.4 million cast. Recounts are triggered in Minnesota when the winning margin is less than half of 1 percent.
  • ALASKA. Recently indicted Republican Senator Ted Stevens has a narrow lead over challenger Mark Begich -- 106,351 to 102,998.
  • GEORGIA. Georgia seems to be headed toward a runoff election, as Republican incumbent Saxby Chambliss leads Democratic challenger Jim Martin by about 110,000 votes Wednesday morning with 96 percent of the state's precincts counted. Chambliss had 49.8 percent to Martin's 46.8 percent. Libertarian candidate Allen Buckley had 3.4 percent of the vote. If no candidate gets more than 50 percent, the top two vote-getters will face a December runoff.
  • U.S. HOUSE. There are five House races that are deadlocked and likely heading toward recounts: California 4th - McClintock (155,771) and Brown (155,320); New Jersey 3rd - Myers (144,360) and Adler (142,604); Washington state - Reichert (70,232) and Burner (69,083); Virginia 5th - Perriello (157,851) and Goode (156,694); and Maryland 1st - Kratovil (160,780) and Harris (159,787).
  • WASHINGTON STATE. We are watching very closely the governor's race in Washington State as it has been highly publicized as a rematch of the nail biter race in 2004, when Democrat Gregoire won the election by 133 votes after two recounts and a lawsuit. Although her lead was considerably greater this time around, Rossi refuses to concede.
  • MONTANA. The Montana's secretary of state race is extremely close, with Democrat Linda McCollough deadlocked in a 49 percent tie with Republican Brad Johnson.
  • GEORGIA. In Georgia, another runoff election is unfolding at the state level, as Democratic Public Service Commission candidate Jim Powell is running almost even with Republican Lauren McDonald. This race comes to our attention because of the extenuating circumstances surrounding challenges to Powell's candidacy. He had to fend off a dogged effort by Georgia Secretary of State Karen Handel, who tried - despite multiple court rulings - for months to keep him off the ballot. The state Supreme Court finally ruled (unanimously) late last week that Powell should get to stay on the ballot.

ELECTION DAY -- TIGHT RACES IN 8 STATES MEAN PRESSING NEED REMAINS FOR VOLUNTEERS, FUNDING TO KEEP GOP FROM STEALING ELECTION -- Tight margins in key Presidential, U.S. Senate and governor races in at least eight states make it imperative that Democrats volunteer and provide financial support on Election Day to prevent Republican from stealing close elections, according to the experts at NoVoterLeftBehind.net (www.NoVoterLeftBehind.net), which is accepting donations and volunteers to fight back against the GOP campaign to steal the 2008 election both on and after November 4th. NoVoterLeftBehind.net highlighted the following races as being the most likely to require direct efforts to stop underhanded GOP efforts on and after Election Day in the following eight states - Colorado, Florida, Ohio, Oregon, Missouri, New Hampshire, North Carolina and Washington state. Here is what NoVoterLeftBehind.net will be watching most closely:

  • Presidential swing states. According to the pre-election poll of poll averages Obama is ahead by 3.5 percent in Florida (+1.8 percent) and Ohio (+3.2 percent), while McCain is ahead by even tighter margins in North Carolina (+0.6 percent) and Missouri (+0.5 percent). All four of these key swing states are ripe for GOP vote suppression efforts that could tip the margin of victory to McCain. (See http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/maps/obama_vs_mccain/#data.)
  • Major Senate races. NoVoterLeftBehind.net is keeping a close watch on four closely fought senate races: Jeff Merkley in Oregon; Congressman Mark Udall in Colorado; Jeanne Shaheen in New Hampshire; and Kay Hagen in North Carolina. The fact that the Hagen race against incumbent Elizabeth Dole is taking place in one of the states that is most susceptible to Republican vote suppression efforts makes it of particular concern. (See above.)
  • Governor races. Close races for the top state elected job in Washington state, North Carolina, Missouri and Indiana will require close vigilance. The fact that North Carolina and Missouri are also tight Obama-McCain fights ... and that Indiana is a hotly contested "red" state ... means that there is considerable potential for GOP vote suppression and other mischief in these races.

10.28.08 -- ELECTORAL COLLEGE OUTCOME AT RISK TO GOP VOTE SUPPRESSION -- Democrats are being warned not to pop those champagne corks just yet. The fact is that the leads for presidential candidate Barack Obama are so slim in five out of nine key toss-up states that Republican vote suppression efforts could still tip the outcome of the 2008 presidential election, according to the experts at NoVoterLeftBehind.net ... Help NVLB fight the Republicans by donating and signing up as a volunteer! Where could GOP vote suppression tactics flip the outcome on Election Day? Based on the state-level "poll of poll" survey averages reported at http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/maps/obama_vs_mccain/#data by RealClearPolitics, the following is evident (as of 5 a.m. EDT on October 27, 2008):

  • There are now six toss-up states (Florida, Nevada, North Carolina, Missouri, Indiana and Montana) and six "leaning states" (Colorado, Ohio, West Virginia, Virginia, Georgia and New Mexico). Of these John McCain is leading to some extent in three (Montana, West Virginia and Georgia).
  • Of the remaining nine - over half (5) have Obama ahead by 3.3 percent or less, with razor-thin leads of just 1 percent or less in three states: North Carolina (1 percent): Missouri (1 percent); and Indiana (0.5 percent).
  • Thus, Obama is leading in over half of key toss-up and leaning states by roughly the margin of error or less in the typical poll (3-4 percent). The 69 electoral votes balanced on this knife edge account for more than one in four of the 270 needed to win the White House in the Electoral College.

10.20.08 -- NVLB IN RFK, JR. ROLLING STONE ARTICLE! -- NoVoterLeftBehind.net (NVLB) founder Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., is the co-author of a major article in the new issue of Rolling Stone detailing the underhanded tactics that Republicans are now using to deny the right to vote to tens of thousands of Americans. Cited as a major resource in the article, NoVoterLeftBehind.net is now accepting donations and volunteers to fight back against the GOP campaign to steal the 2008 election. Titled "Block the Vote," the Rolling Stone story (issue 1064) is available online. As the article notes: "Contributing editor Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is one of the nation's leading voting-rights advocates. His article 'Was the 2004 Election Stolen?' sparked widespread scrutiny of vote tampering. Greg Palast, who broke the story on Florida's illegal voter purges in the 2000 election, is the author of 'The Best Democracy Money Can Buy.' 10.15.08 -- KENNEDY TOWNSEND: ACORN SMEAR HIDES MASSIVE GOP VOTE SUPPRESSION PUSH -- The ongoing Republican attack on the lawful voter registration efforts of ACORN is a "desperate smokescreen maneuver" masking an extensive coast-to-coast GOP push to disenfranchise hundreds of thousands of voters through a wide range of vote suppression tactics, according to Kathleen Kennedy Townsend, former lieutenant governor of the state of Maryland.

Urging concerned Americans to get involved through NoVoterLeftBehind.net, Kennedy Townsend said: "The attack on the voter registration efforts of ACORN may go down in the record books as the ultimate case of the 'dirty' pot calling the 'clean' kettle black. ACORN is being savaged for doing its duty to openly self-report all cases where there may be any kind of issue with specific voter registration forms. By contrast, the GOP is skulking around out of the public eye across the nation in a sub rosa attempt to use a host of outrageous and desperate vote suppression tactics to steal the election. For every potentially problematic ACORN voter registration form that will never result in anyone casting an illegitimate vote, there are literally hundreds of voters who the GOP will go to any lengths to keep out of the voting booth. This attack on ACORN is a sad and deeply cynical tactic coming from a party that seems to have concluded that they can't win the election on their own, so they have to prevent the other side from voting." As a result, NoVoterLeftBehind.net is urging the 2.2 million Americans in the grips of the mortgage foreclosure crisis to know their rights before Election Day.
